Just shy of her 86th birthday, windsurfer Anastasia Gerolymatou reached Zakynthos, achieving another remarkable feat! INKEFALONIA.GR was there !
Anastasia Gerolymatou, the windsurfer from Kefalonia, managed to achieve yet another remarkable feat just a few months before turning 86.
A feat that impresses and serves as a shining example of a way of life for all of us.
Five years after swimming across Skala to Kyllini, which secured her entry into the Guinness World Records, Anastasia set her next goal.
To reach Zakynthos with her sail, covering a distance of 11 nautical miles.
When weather conditions allowed, Koroni Beach was chosen as the ideal spot to start her goal.
Her enthusiasm and drive for the impending achievement were evident.
Her certainty of sure success was apparent.
Her energy and passion for achieving her goal were noticeable.
Throughout the preparation, she constantly approached what was about to happen as a "game."
To everyone else, it seemed like something impressive, beyond the limits of human capabilities, but to Anastasia, it seemed like a simple, long ride!
And she did it! She reached her goal, arriving at the port of Agios Nikolaos, despite the weather conditions at the end of her journey not being particularly favorable.
The crossing was organized professionally to provide the necessary support if needed, with the assistance of the Municipality of Argostoli.
Anastasia was continuously accompanied by a speedboat, on which we had the pleasure and honor of being the only media present, capturing unique moments.
The team consisted of Dr. Andreas Tsimaras with a mobile pharmacy, lifeguard Filaretos Tzortzatos from Kefalonia Lifeguards, who supplied the mission with specialized medical equipment, and George Vlachos from Kefalonia Boat Rentals, who took the helm of the boat.
The soul of the team was Dimitris Deligiannis, who encouraged, supported, and gave Anastasia the necessary instructions for her great effort.
With us was the British journalist Lizzie Goldsack and Mrs. Kalliopi, a beloved friend of Anastasia, who constantly encouraged her.
And when the goal was achieved, joy, excitement, and obvious emotion were the feelings that dominated!
After a brief stay at the port of Agios Nikolaos, where there was a reception by the Municipal Authority, the return journey began.
As we were leaving the port, the ship connecting Kefalonia with Zakynthos was entering.
At the sight of the ship, Anastasia, filled with excitement, greeted it in her own unique way.
This is the image we remember.
Her smiling, enthusiastic, and emotional face.
"I did it again," she must have thought.
We were lucky to be by her side and to receive the love she generously offers us.
And when we returned home, a little after 10 p.m., Anastasia left us with the most beautiful encouragement.
To never stop dreaming...
Our sweet Anastasia, thank you!
