RYANAIR: Check-in Only via App - Airport Ticket Counters to be Phased Out
Ryanair's CEO, Michael O'Leary, announced the airline's intention to eliminate ticket counters and move all check-ins to the app starting next spring during a press conference in Dublin.
"We will remove ticket counters, and there will no longer be any reason to charge airport check-in fees," said O'Leary, emphasizing that Ryanair is already developing the necessary app so passengers can fully manage all aspects of their flight through it from May 1.
Due to high airport fees, Europe's largest low-cost airline is already encouraging its customers to check in online if possible. Currently, anyone who doesn't do so has to pay an additional €55 at the airport.
If the airline implements its plan, customers without smartphones will not be able to travel with Ryanair, as they won’t be able to board the planes.
According to O'Leary, 60% of passengers currently use the Ryanair app. He expects this percentage to rise to 80% by the end of the year.
The Ryanair CEO also addressed concerns about mobile phone issues potentially making boarding impossible, reassuring that as long as the airline knows the passenger's name and their passport is present, everything will be fine, with clarifications provided at the boarding gate.
